Manchester United player ratings

David de Gea: 7 – Excellent defense by McGinn in the first half and made some big claims in the second half. Solid.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 7 – Two great moments. A poor moment. Great run and cross for the first goal, but caught for Villa’s goal when he tried to block the quick free kick, but was caught leaving his place and Grealish. Brilliant clearance to deny El Ghazi what appeared to be a clear goal.

Eric Bailly: 8 – Excellent block at the end to deny Davis, and eliminated many dangers over and over again. The way United players celebrated with him on the final whistle said it all. He’s been unconscious for a long time, it’s good to see him shaking off the rust.

Harry Maguire: 7 – Solid launch, as he came close with a header and just did his job and defended well.

Luke Shaw: 6 – Some good races ahead in the second half, but in the first half he was caught by Cash on several occasions in a good flank battle.

Fred: 7 – Combative display, as always, and did his best to stop Villa’s attacks. He never gave up.

Scott McTominay: 6 – It is not your best performance, as Grealish definitely won the battle face to face.

Marcus Rashford: 7 – A great blow for the first goal and did a good job on the side, especially on the right in the first half. Selfless display.

Bruno Fernandes: 7 – He saved the penalty well and was close on other occasions. I usually had quality in the ball in the final third, but I didn’t see much of the ball. One of its quietest games.

Paul Pogba: 8 – Really good performance, as he prepared the play for the first goal with sublime skill, had some incredible individual moments and was always cutting the left flank. He won the penalty for the winner and, in general, he threw himself on the ground, but made some too risky passes.

Anthony Martial: 8 – He hit the goal well with a poaching submission. I could have had a few more, but it was always a threat behind it. Large advanced center display.

Replacement
Nemanja Matic (65 ′ for McTominay): 6 – Some sloppy passes, but did his best to calm things down.
Daniel James (87 ′ for Fernandes): 6 – Some lively runs prevented Cash from moving forward.
Axel Tuanzebe (90 ′ for Fred): N / A

Aston Villa player ratings

Emiliano Martinez: 8 – A series of good saves to deny United, and he looks like one of the best signings of the season.

Matty Cash: 6 – lost strength in the second half after a very strong first half. Whipped on some big crosses.

Ezri Konsa: 6 – Solid enough while working hard to head and clean the balls.

Tyrone Mings: 6 – He will be disappointed with the first goal, as he seemed to be clearing the cross, but missed the target and Martial scored. Otherwise, I had a good time.

Matt Targett: 6 – He suffered a difficult period for Rashford, but he kept trying.

Douglas Luiz: 6 – He gave a penalty kick for clipping from Pogba, and he didn’t need to push so hard. Dug deep and wrapped everywhere.

John McGinn: 7 – Really solid, as always, in helping Villa set the pace in the first half. Great volleyball at the beginning that De Gea saved.

Bertrand Traore: 7 – He scored very well and always threatened widely.

Jack Grealish: 8 – It was brilliant in the second half to create several chances that his teammates failed to convert and create Villa’s goal. United was so afraid of him and made him dirty several times.

Anwar El Ghazi: 6 – Closed several times and continued to appear in dangerous areas.

Ollie Watkins: 5 – Lack of confidence, but never give up. Missed some great chances, but is not hiding. Not your night.

Replacement
Jacob Ramsey (79 ′ for Traore): 6 – He used the ball well and settled in the game.
Keinan Davis (84 ′ for El Ghazi): 6 – It looked very bright and came close twice.
