Man with MMA training who beat Oklahoma footballer Spencer Jones speaks out

A man who fought with a University of Oklahoma football player earlier this month spoke out after the incident went viral on social media.

Walker Brown, an MMA-trained man, was captured on video in a two-on-two strife with Sooners’ wide receiver Spencer Jones who left both men injured.

Police are currently investigating the incident, which took place inside a men’s room in a bar near the OU campus. Norman Police spokeswoman Sarah Jensen recently told Sports Illustrated that the department has labeled the incident “aggravated assault and assault”, with all parties identified. No arrests were made at this time.

On a GoFundMe page launched on Tuesday in his name, Brown revealed that he was injured in the strife and will therefore need a break from work. Brown repeatedly stated that he was defending himself and that the video did not capture all the strife.

“I feel awkward doing this because I want to work and pay my own bills, but I’m realizing that it can be difficult for a while,” wrote Brown. “I’ll say YES, something happened before the video started because my nose doesn’t bleed for no reason.”

Brown’s lawyer Steve Sice expanded Brown’s statement and supported his client’s claim that the strife started before the video started.

“What is not shown is the original assault and assault suffered by Mr. Brown at the hands of Mr. Jones and his friend just before the shoot,” wrote Sice. “As you can see, my client’s nose and clothes were bloody before the video started. Mr. Brown had a legal justification to defend himself in this matter. As a result, Mr. Brown received several injuries, including a ruptured bicep that will require surgery. We will not make further comments until the investigation is completed by the authorities. ”

As of Thursday afternoon, more than $ 46,000 of the $ 50,000 goal was raised on Walker Brown’s GoFundMe page.

Meanwhile, Jones is dealing with his own injuries. He underwent four-hour surgery to repair a broken left orbital cavity, according to The Athletic.

Jones’ lawyer, Woodrow Glass, offered a different view of the situation. Glass told the New York Daily News that his client was trying to reduce the situation and did not blow Jones’ nose.

The video, which appeared on Monday, begins with Brown bleeding from his nose. Brown and Jones exchange words. A man behind Jones, probably a friend or associate of Jones, steps forward and pushes Brown. The Brown brothers’ father Tommy Brown told MMA Fighting on Wednesday that his sons train at The Coliseum Wrestling and MMA – an academy he owns. Neither Walker, Braden, nor Tommy have records or profiles listed in a large MMA database.
