Man takes a selfie with his pregnant wife and pushes her off a cliff to ask for insurance money

A Turkish man reportedly pushed his wife off a cliff after taking a selfie with her moments before.

The man was reportedly looking to cash in on his wife’s life insurance, which he tried to collect after her death.

The New York Post reports how Hakan Aysal, 40, and his wife, 32, Semra, were on vacation in Butterfly Valley, Turkey, when the incident occurred. Semra was seven months pregnant at the time and died instantly after falling 300 meters.

The Sun also reports how prosecutors believe Aysal’s actions were a “deliberate murder” that was intended to fill his pockets with his life insurance policy, the total of which amounted to 400,000 Turkish lire (about $ 57,000).

Semra’s brother, Naim Yolcu, adds how his sister “has always been against borrowing.” After his death, however, his brother-in-law took three in his name.

“My family and I were destroyed, but Hakan didn’t even look sad,” said Yolcu.

Aysal, however, claims that his wife’s death was a tragic accident. Insurance premiums, he says, were drawn up because of his love of extreme sports.

“I have been interested in extreme sports since 2014,” said Aysal. “Skydiving, bungee jumping, rafting – that’s why I had life insurance before I got married.”

Further investigations on the matter remain pending.
