Man survives coronavirus in coma thanks to wife’s voice

A man who spent more than two months in the hospital with the coronavirus says it was his wife’s voice that helped him overcome his coma and recover.

Don Gillmer, 43, tested positive for the virus on July 5, developed a cough and was admitted to the hospital four days later, WBTV reported.

He remained in care for 63 days.

“I received convalescent plasma twice, Remdesevir. Nothing was working. Nothing was helping me to recover, so I will never really forget when they arrived with the papers I needed to sign to get on a respirator. It scared me, ”said Don Gillmer.

A month after Don’s hospitalization, his temperature reached 40 degrees and he was put into an induced coma.

The doctor called his wife, Lacy, saying that he might not survive the night.

She and her father ran to the hospital to see him.

“I just told him that he was doing great, that they were taking good care of him. He was in amazing hands, ”said Lacy Gillmer.

Don Gillmer said it was his wife’s words of encouragement that helped him overcome his coma.

“I swear I heard her, I swear I heard her voice, and when she left, I was stable. She is my angel. She’s the reason I’m here, ”he said.

Even after Don woke up from a coma, he still had a long way to recover. He had to relearn how to walk and was not released until 9/11, WYFF reported.

The 43-year-old man still needs therapy twice a week, but he credits his wife for all that.

A family friend also created a GoFundMe page to help Don and Lacy Gillmer pay for their medical bills. On Sunday, the page raised $ 13,320.
