A man in his 30s who was shot by the police after shooting his son’s mother’s friend in an East Side apartment died, according to San Antonio police chief William McManus.

Police were called to the East Meadow Apartments at block 1200 on North Walters Street on Friday night.

McManus said the man in his 30s confronted his son’s mother’s friend and then shot him. A policeman who was nearby arrived moments later and found the suspect in the shooting.

The policeman confronted the man, and the suspect in the shooting drew his gun, McManus said.

After that, the officer stepped back and called for backup as he followed the suspect in the shooting, who continued up the street, gun still visible, in the direction of Burleson.

When the second group of policemen arrived, 15 to 20 minutes later, five of the policemen followed the suspect in the shooting and tried to alleviate the situation, said McManus.

The shooting suspect entered an empty field and police officers used a Taser to try to subdue him, according to the chief. He then shot the police, and five of them fired back, hitting him several times, said McManus.

None of the policemen were injured in the shooting.

The suspect in the shooting was taken to the Brooke Army Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.

The victim shot in the apartment complex was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The boss said he was stable at the last check.

Directors, whose career at SAPD ranges from three to 19 years, will be placed in administrative roles.

McManus said the information provided during his briefing is preliminary and is subject to change with further investigations.
