Very cheeky.
A Briton tried to put a samosa in prison by hiding it between his buttocks, police said in a recent report.
West Midlands Police said discovering fried dough was one of the most unusual incidents of 2020, Birmingham Live reported.
“We had some strange incidents,” Inspector Manj Ahir told the website.
“One that was etched in my mind was a man found with a samosa secreted between his buttocks during a search.”
The hungry detainee apparently acted out of fear of not getting decent food after being arrested.
“He said he wanted to put it in the cell as a snack because he didn’t think the food was too big,” said Ahir.
The officer joked, “He obviously didn’t read our positive TripAdvisor comments!”
Another odd prison involved a 40-year-old man who returned to prison after being released – with a box of chocolates to thank the team.
The man, who had been charged with assault, had type 2 diabetes, so the police came to his house to take his medicine.
“He also saw an employee who indicated alcohol because he drank for the first time in six years, which he believed had led to prison,” recalled Ahir.
A few days later, he returned to the cell block “with chocolates to thank for the affection he received from the team”.
“It was a lovely gesture,” said the inspector.
The strange incidents occurred among more than 45,000 arrests made by police in the West Midlands over the past year, the report said.
“It was a year like no other for us, with significant demand, processing an average of 126 detainees per day, while adhering to the COVID-19 protocols,” said Ahir.
“The team has done brilliantly, however,” he added.
