Man gets stuck in machine and dies at South Carolina plant

SPARTANBURG, SC (AP) – An investigation is underway after a man was trapped in a machine at a South Carolina plant and died.

Anthony Dean Lemmons, 54, of Pacolet, died early Sunday from injuries sustained at an Innovative Fibers facility in Spartanburg, said the Spartanburg County coroner’s office.

“We are sad to confirm the loss of a co-worker in an incident at the workplace,” the company said in a statement released to local media.

“Production at the plant has been halted and is scheduled to resume at a later date,” said the statement.

Authorities said Lemmons was trapped in a machine around 1:15 am on Sunday and was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Innovative Fibers said it is committed to assisting the South Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration in investigating death. The coroner’s office said a forensic examination was scheduled for Monday.
