Man faces prison for breaking Singapore’s COVID-19 quarantine

A British man faces up to six years in prison for breaking Singapore’s quarantine rules to meet his then-fiancee at the same hotel, according to a report.

Nigel Skea, 52, left his room at the five-star Ritz-Carlton hotel on three occasions in September to meet his now wife, Agatha Maghesh Eyamala, 39, in another room, Sky News reported.

On one occasion, a Skea without a mask climbed an emergency staircase to enter a room that Eyamala had booked at the hotel in downtown Marina Bay, the agency said.

He then spent nine hours with Eyamala, who was not quarantined, Sky reported.

Most travelers are expected to stay in a designated hotel room or quarantined home for 14 days after arriving in Singapore, the agency said.

Skea pleaded guilty on Monday to breaking the country’s coronavirus quarantine, while Eyamala pleaded guilty to helping her partner at the hotel meeting.
