Man drowns after jumping off SC bridge to avoid oncoming train | Nation and world

CLEMSON – A man walking on a train bridge over a South Carolina lake drowned after he had to jump into the water to avoid an oncoming locomotive, officials said.

The body of Joshua Corey Savage, 28, was removed from Lake Hartwell, west of Clemson, on Saturday, the day after witnesses heard him screaming for help in the lake, Coroner Kandy Kelley of Pickens County said in a statement.

Investigators analyzed the video of the train showing Savage walking on the train tracks over the lake on Friday morning when the approaching train forced him to jump, Kelley said.

Crews searched for Savage all day on Friday after people heard him screaming for help, but his body was not found until Saturday, officials said.

Savage was from Dorchester County, but had recently been to Seneca. He was going from Seneca to the Center when he had to jump off the bridge, said Kelley.
