A man fell to his death in Florida after his parachute did not open when he jumped off a hotel balcony, officials said.
The unidentified man jumped off the balcony on the 14th floor of the Sunrise Beach Resort on Sunday night in Panama City Beach, reported the WMBB news station.
He was trying to do the BASE jump – an activity in which people jump off a building or antenna, among other fixed objects – but his parachute did not open in time, the outlet said.
No further details are available on the form of his death.
Authorities believe the man was in his 20s, but it is not clear whether he was local or out of state, the WJHG news station reported.
The popular spring break destination is located on the Gulf of Mexico – more than 160 kilometers southwest of the state’s capital, Tallahassee.
