Man arrested for “offensive” tweet from Sir Captain Tom Moore

A 35-year-old man was arrested in Scotland for posting an “offensive” tweet about the late British hero Captain Sir Tom Moore, police said on Monday.

Lanarkshire Police Department said he received a report on the missive on February 5, two days after Moore’s death at the age of 100.

Police did not say what the tweet contained or the suspect’s name.

He was charged under the UK Communications Act 2003, which considers it a crime to post content on social media that is “grossly offensive or indecent, obscene or threatening”.

The accused tweeter faces up to six months in prison and / or a fine of up to $ 6,800, The Independent reported.

He is due to appear in court next Wednesday.

Moore, a veteran of World War II, won the heart of Britain after raising nearly $ 45 million for frontline workers in the country’s coronavirus.

He died last week, shortly after his positive test for COVID-19 and was admitted to the hospital with severe pneumonia.
