Man and woman linked to more than 20 armed robberies found dead in motel in SC

FLORENCE, SC (AP) – Officials say two people suspected of more than 20 armed robberies in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia were found dead in a hotel room after police heard gunshots when they knocked on the door to arrest them.

Investigators say that Florence County deputies and federal agents did not fire while trying to arrest the suspects on Friday at the Suburban Extended Stay Motel in Florence.

Authorities believe Chauntress Evelyn Like, 21, of Westerville, Ohio, and Donovan McMillan of Hartsville, 25, are responsible for at least 22 armed robberies in the three states. Authorities have yet to say which specific assaults the suspects are accused of.

The coroner’s office is waiting for the autopsy results to determine whether the two shots were self-inflicted.
