Man accused of murdering ex-girlfriend found dead in Texas

A man suspected of shooting his ex-girlfriend dead in front of his son earlier this week in Pacoima was found dead in Texas on Saturday after a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said.

Herbert Nixon Flores, 46, shot himself while police in Irving, Texas, approached him, according to authorities. His death ended a hunt for the man that began on the morning of January 6, when, according to police, Flores shot his ex-girlfriend at 9,000 block of Avenida Bartee in Pacoima.

The Los Angeles Police Department released a video of the attack. A woman is standing outside the car when another car stops behind him. She screams, runs towards a door and knocks on the door. A man with dark glasses runs after her, holding a gun. He fires six shots at close range, returns to the car and leaves.

Flores killed his girlfriend, who authorities did not identify, in the presence of his young son, the LAPD said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office charged Flores on January 8 with murder, shooting into an inhabited residence and putting a child in danger. The FBI, whose squad of fugitives was helping the LAPD to track Flores, described him as a member of the MS-13 gang.

Investigators found that Flores was visiting a family in Irving, a city northwest of Dallas, Irving police said. On Saturday, Flores was driving toward Dallas when he realized he was being tracked, police said. He abandoned the car and continued on foot. As the marked police cars advanced to make the arrest, Flores shot himself with a gun he was carrying, police said.
