Man accused of hate crime in attack on subway passenger in Asia in New York

A man from the Bronx was charged with a hate crime, Fox News found, in the alleged attack on a 68-year-old Asian subway passenger in Lower Manhattan last week.

Marc Mathieu, 36, allegedly repeatedly attacked Narayange Bodhi, a Sri Lankan immigrant on a number 1 train north, last Friday.

A witness to the attack told The New York Post that the attack was racially motivated.

Witness George Okrepkie, 56, said Mathieu approached Bodhi and shouted, “Your Asian son of a bitch!” and punched him.

“Suddenly, the guy was on top of the elderly man, making a stabbing movement, hitting him on the head,” said Okrepkie. “Within seconds, the blood was spread all over the [victim]. “

Okrepkie said he tried to intervene.

He told the New York Daily News: “I was in a state of shock.”

“It’s an incredibly disgusting attack on an Asian American,” continued Okrepkie. “I tried to go after the attacker, but he ran away.”

Mathieu was also accused of criminal assault.
