Malabar man formally accused of Andrea’s murder

Negus George of Seventh Street, Gooding Trace in Malabar, was formally charged with the murder of 23-year-old Andrea Bharatt.

The police filed the charge against the 24-year-old this morning.

George must appear before an Arima Magistrate via an online connection sometime in the next few hours.

Senior homicide investigators told Guardian Media that George is likely to be at the Arima Police Station for the virtual hearing.

Meanwhile, George’s girlfriend, a 37-year-old from Malabar, is due to be charged today for receiving stolen goods.

Sources say there is an administrative requirement that needs to be completed before it is formally charged.

Andrea Bharatt was kidnapped on King Street, Arima, on January 29, and her body was found lying on a precipice six days later in the Aripo Hills on February 4.
