A health professional from Maine Medical Center experienced an anaphylactic reaction after receiving the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
Maine CDC director Nirav Shah said the worker felt discomfort about 20 minutes after receiving the injection.
“When these signs and symptoms became worrying, the individual received medical care and adequate treatment. The appropriate systems have been put in place to detect, manage and treat, ”he said.
Shah said the reactions to the Pfizer vaccine are not new. But they are rare among the 800,000 doses administered in the United States.
