Maine CDC reports 20 new COVID-19-related deaths, 357 cases

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) – The Maine CDC is reporting that an additional 20 people have died as a result of the coronavirus.

The 20 additional deaths reported on Saturday include two residents of Androscoggin County, four residents of Aroostook County, three residents of Cumberland County, a resident of Kennebec County, a resident of Oxford County, five residents of Penobscot County, a resident of Washington County and three residents of York County.

15 of the people who died were women, while five were men.

Two were between 50 and 59 years old, one was between 60 and 69 years old, four were between 70 and 79 years old and 13 were 80 years old or more.

The additional deaths reported on Saturday reflect a review of vital records filed in the past two weeks, mainly involving deaths that occurred between 10 and 23 January 2021.

The death toll in the states is now 590.

The Maine CDC is reporting 353 new cases of the virus.

There are now more than 39,000 cases in Maine since the pandemic began.

More than 31,500 cases are confirmed by the Maine CDC.

Cumberland and York counties are reporting most new cases overnight.

Penobscot and Kennebec counties are reporting 46 new cases each.

Currently, 161 people are hospitalized with the virus, 51 are in critical care.

The Maine CDC reported that as of Saturday, 145,356 coronavirus vaccinations had been administered.

108,519 people received their first dose, while 36,837 received the second dose.

The next Maine CDC briefing is scheduled for Tuesday, February 2 at 2pm.
