It’s still not real, but in the virtual world, the Kansas City Chiefs are the repeated champions of the Super Bowl.
In the official Madden NFL 21 Super Bowl LV simulation, the Chiefs defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 37-27 for Lombardi’s second consecutive trophy.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes scored the touchdown in the fourth quarter with a 12-yard run to give Kansas City a 34-27 lead. The Chiefs added a final field goal to account for the final margin.
Madden’s simulation hit the Super Bowl last year, choosing the Chiefs to beat the 49ers and Mahomes to be the MVP. Two consecutive losses ended for Sim Madden, who selected the Rams to win the Patriots in Super Bowl LIII (New England won) and the Patriots to win Eagles in Super Bowl LII (Eagles and Nick Foles were the winners that year) .
The sim hit the Super Bowl LI, choosing New England to come from behind to beat the Falcons, but the Madden sim’s margin was not as great as the Patriots’ historic recovery from a 28-3 deficit.
Mahomes was the most valuable player in the Super Bowl LV’s Madden sim, after completing 31 of 41 passes for 422 yards and four touchdowns – for the second year running he was named Super Bowl MVP. Mahomes launched touchdown passes for Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Travis Kelce, as well as two for Tyreek Hill – including one 63-yard.
The effort was enough to hold Tom Brady, who completed 30 of 44 passes for 322 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Brady gave touchdowns to Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, as well as a fourth period pass to Rob Gronkowski to tie the game at 27.
