Macaulay Culkin expressed support for the removal of President Donald Trump’s participation from the 1992 film “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York”.
In the vacation film, Trump appears at the Plaza Hotel – which the property tycoon owned at the time – to give young Kevin McAllister (Culkin) directions to the lobby.
A fan of the “Home Alone” sequel said on Twitter that she would like to start a “Petition to digitally replace the trump card in ‘alone at home 2’ with macaulay culkin, 40 years old”.
“Sold”, the actor answered.
Another fan shared an edited version of the scene with Trump removed.
“Bravo,” tweeted Culkin.
Trump was previously cut from “Home Alone 2” by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation during a broadcast on Christmas Day in 2019. CBC Head of Public Affairs, Chuck Thompson, said the 10-second scene was between nearly eight minutes of cut footage of the film to save time for broadcasting television with commercials.
“This happens regularly with films adapted for television,” explained Thompson. “The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the film, as none of them were part of the plot. These edits were made in 2014. ”
Fox News accused CBC of “censorship” and “Trump Derangement Syndrome”, while Trump accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of being behind the issue: “I don’t think Justin T really likes me to make him pay for NATO or for Trade! ”The president tweeted at the time.
People magazine reports that “Home Alone 2” director Chris Columbus said in November that Trump intimidated “his way into the movie” because they used the hotel he owned from 1988 to 1995.
“We paid the fee, but he also said, ‘The only way to use Plaza is if I’m in the film,'” Columbus told Insider. “So we agreed to put it in the movie, and when we first showed it, the strangest thing happened: people applauded when Trump appeared on the screen.”
“So I said to my editor, ‘Leave it to the movie. It is a time for the public. ‘”
Trump was impeached for the second time on Wednesday, on charges of inciting insurrection in the United States Capitol, after a pro-Trump crowd stormed the building, causing five deaths and dozens of injuries. In addition to calls to remove him from “Home Alone 2”, the rush included being banned from Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms; New York terminating $ 17 million contracts for the Trump Organization; and seeing banks and Wall Street move away from Trump.
