Lyon Township, Michigan: three killed in plane crash

The three fatalities are believed to be the pilot and two passengers, said the sheriff’s office.

The family of five who live in the house managed to get out alive, but the house was on fire, the office said. The house is located in Lyon Township, about 40 miles west of Detroit.

The mother told CNN affiliate WDIV that the family was inside when the plane crashed. She said they were in the living room discussing which movie to watch and had just moved to a different room when the plane hit the house, according to WDIV.

If the mother, father and three children had stayed in the living room, the story would have been different, WDIV reported.

The family’s cat died, according to WDIV.

The home is located just north of Oakland / Southwest Airport, which is operated by Oakland County.

Eric Mullen told WDIV that a plane crash was always his worst fear when living in that neighborhood, because planes are always flying over the airport about 800 meters away.

“I have two brothers under the age of 2, and they were upstairs sleeping; they were napping … Do you worry if this could happen to us, because these planes fly low here all the time, ”another neighbor, Chase Southwick, said WDIV.

The Federal Aviation Administration was contacted about the accident, according to WDIV.
