Lucid Air will be the first vehicle in the world to integrate Dolby Atmos

The collaboration with Dolby will integrate Atmos into Lucid Air’s new Surreal Sound 21-speaker system. As the first vehicle to feature Dolby Atmos sound, Air drivers will have an immersive listening experience. In addition, the speaker system will provide enhanced audio security features.

In a press release this morning, Lucid Motors announced the collaboration with Dolby. The Surreal Sound on the Air system consists of 21 front, rear, side and height speakers. All of which are perfectly integrated and positioned inside the EV. According to the automaker, Dolby Atmos’ multidimensional sound will provide an immersive audio experience in its luxury EV.

Lucid worked closely with Dolby Atmos, using the recording studio Capitol Records Studio C as a reference design. The speaker system was then adjusted to optimize the unique interior space of the Air. Tim Pryde, Director of Music at Dolby Laboratories, writes:

From reinvented classics to some of the biggest hits at the top of the charts today, Dolby Atmos Music has been positively embraced and seen by the music community as one of the biggest paradigm shifts in the industry in the past 50 years. As a company, we are fully committed to bringing immersive audio to all forms of music enjoyment. Automotive is a natural extension of the incredible musical experience in Dolby Atmos, and we are excited to bring that to the world with Lucid.

Lucid’s Surreal Sound system also offers security

In addition to the “expanded palette” of Dolby Atmos, Lucid’s Surreal Sound system offers an unprecedented experience, but that’s not all. According to the press release:

The audio experience extends to the Air’s intuitive design, including acoustic signaling of notifications, directions, warnings and all other audios emitted to alert the driver and passengers

The abundant speaker system in the Air can use directional sound to correlate with the triggered warning or alert. For example, if a driver forgets his seat belt, the sound seems to come from the unbuckled belt.

Lucid also quotes are the signs of change in the air. For example, for the driver, the signal will sound as if it comes from either side of where the turn is indicated. Can you imagine the voice on your GPS quietly telling you to turn U right in your ear?

The Lucid Air Dream Edition is scheduled to start shipping in the second half of 2021. Until then, you can see a Lucid Air at one of the automaker’s new retail studios. Finally, you can see the full Lucid Motors video ad here:

This collaboration between Lucid and Dolby Atmos on the next Air only adds to their long list of luxury advantages. An immersive musical experience in any EV seat looks incredible. In addition, you add intuitive security warnings and that’s even better. These audio signals can help drivers stay focused on the road while remaining fully aware of what is going on.

Overall, this first collaboration is expected to help raise even more hype around Lucid’s flagship EV. At the same time, however, more people will say, “Hey! When is Lucid going to start delivering these things? “

At this point, your guess is as good as ours. “The second half of 2021,” is a very broad timeline at the moment. For now, we should daydream about how amazing Mr. Brightside it will sound like the Surreal Sound system. With the addition of Dolby Atmos, it may appear that Brandon Flowers is singing right next to you.
