Pablo joins the conversation to laugh. Deletes the tweet. Then, put one of them as your header. How is that acceptable to someone so important at Lucasfilm? Are you telling people that it is not right to have emotions about the work your company does and make fun of them for crying? It is not alright. pic.twitter.com/aIfU2SigIy

We can’t all be together at theaters or at conventions right now, so express yourself online!
(In fact, those of us who are not prone to such displays will live in silence indirectly through their energy.)

The relationship between the fans and Lucasfilm has been controversial since the damn prequel. After Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, however, these tensions were only exacerbated. Fan reaction to Star Wars: The Last Jedi it was brutal and divisive, creating a barrier between the producer and her fans. In an era with unprecedented fan access to creators and the behind-the-scenes process, fans are not afraid to share their opinions. But the opposite is also true, creators can interact with fans much more easily thanks to social media – and Hidalgo is known for being a very interactive presence on Twitter.
In this case, the fan’s response was one of pure emotion, and Hidalgo’s response was not well received. Mocking him, whether intentional or not, is not looking good. Whereas many fans see The Mandalorian as a correction of the errors of the prequel and sequel trilogies, emotional responses are a given. After years of criticism – from fans and even stars of the series, like John Boyega’s criticisms of Star Wars‘manipulation of colored characters – positive reactions should not be taken lightly. It is unusual for an executive like Lucasfilm, let alone for any company, to react that way in response to a positive reception and Hidalgo’s apology is a small step to correct the situation with Star Wars fans.
