With the final wave of updates from the 247Sports Top247 on Wednesday, LSU football’s 2021 recruiting class took another leap in the ranking.
Thanks to some upward movement from the LSU signatories and commitments to the updated 247Sports rankings, Tigers jumped on Clemson to take on the 4th recruiting class in the country at 247Sports Team Rankings. LSU is now at 291.54 points, while Clemson is at 291.22 points.
Alabama is in first place, followed by Ohio State in second place and Georgia in third.
A year ago, in the 2020 class, the same five teams finished in the top five of the 247Sports Team Rankings, but then went to Georgia first, followed by Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Ohio State.
For the current 2021 class, Tigers signed 20 contracts in December and have two commitments on board ahead of next week’s National Signature Day. LSU has three open scholarship slots still available to fill, which could push the Tigers further up the ranking. Georgia, the current No. 3 team in the ranking, has less than a four point lead over the Tigers in total ranking points.
The Top247 updated on Wednesday brought LSU a new five-star defensive tackle Maason Smith, one of the first Tigers subscribers and the No. 1 prospect in the Louisiana ranking.
LSU quarterback subscriber Garrett Nussmeier, another of the first entries, rose in the ranking to No. 151 overall, while Tigers managed eight entries in the Top 100. In total, 13 of LSU’s entries are classified within the Top247. A pair of LSU subscribers also rose to four stars with both running back Corey Kiner And security Matthew Langlois receiving classification collisions.
