A police officer was shot and killed in New Orleans on Friday night, allegedly while trying to escort the suspect away from a high school basketball game.
The suspected sniper would be in custody.
The murdered officer was identified as Martinus Mitchum, 38, according to NOLA.com.
High school teams Carver and Warren Easton were meeting in a tiebreaker game at Carver High School when the suspect tried to enter, FOX 8 in New Orleans reported.

The game was stopped after the shooting, NOLA.com reported.
The official was working as a security officer for the game, WWL-TV reported.
The suspect was arguing with a school official and the policeman tried to intervene and remove the suspect from the building, according to NOLA.com.
At some point, the suspect drew a gun and shot the policeman in the chest, the report said.
Several photos were taken, according to a WWL photographer who was at the scene.

Orleans Parish sheriff’s delegates who arrived at the scene found the policeman wounded by a firearm and transported him to the University Medical Center, where he later died, FOX 8 reported.
The murdered officer was a member of the Tulane University force in the city and also served as a City Court police officer, Shaun Ferguson, superintendent of the New Orleans Police Department, told FOX 8.
The shooting remains under investigation, officials said.
