Louisiana elected congressman dies in Covid

Letlow, who served as chief of staff to former deputy Ralph Abraham (R-La.) Before being elected to this position, he was due to be sworn in to Congress on Sunday. He is the first or elected member of Congress to die of coronavirus.

Letlow leaves a wife and two young children.

Governor John Bel Edwards offered condolences via Twitter: “It is with a heavy heart that @FirstLadyOfLA and I offer our condolences to the family of Congressman-elect Luke Letlow for his death after a battle with COVID-19. #Lagov.”

Liz Cheney, the president of the Republican Party conference in Congress, also mourned Letlow’s death: “Such devastating news about Congressman-elect Letlow. A tremendous loss – we will be praying for Luke and his family.”
