Louisiana Coronavirus: 1,143 more confirmed cases, 19 deaths reported; see the latest data | Coronavirus

The Louisiana Department of Health reported a further 1,143 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 19 confirmed deaths in its midday update on Monday.

“On 8/2/21, LDH reported two-day totals for cases and tests,” wrote the Louisiana Department of Health in its panel. “The server problem previously reported has been fixed.”

The number of hospitalizations decreased by 22, and the number of patients needing ventilators increased by six.

There are also 54,994 “probable” coronavirus cases in Louisiana, according to the agency’s panel.

These are other important statistics across the state on Monday:

  • Total confirmed cases: 357,995
  • Total “probable” cases: 54,994
  • Total confirmed deaths: 8,542
  • Currently hospitalized: 1,144
  • Currently on fans: 149
  • Vaccine series started: 404,007 (updated twice a week)
  • Vaccine series completed: 130,978
  • Presumed recovered: 363,457 on February 1 (updated weekly)

Note: The Advocate and The Times-Picayune team calculates the daily case count and increases confirmed mortality based on the difference between today’s total and yesterday’s confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths. The Louisiana Department of Health publishes a daily case count on its panel that includes probable cases, as indicated by a positive antigen test. This case count may differ from the one listed here.

Here are some of the parishes with the largest single-day increase in confirmed coronavirus cases, based on Monday’s report:

  • St. Tammany: 110
  • Jefferson: 105
  • Orleans: 82
  • Caddo: 78
  • East Baton Rouge: 76
  • Bossier: 59
  • Lafayette: 57

Louisiana began reopening to Phase 1 on May 15 and May 16, then moved to Phase 2 on June 5. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards extended Louisiana’s Phase 2 restrictions twice in August before moving the state to Phase 3 on September 11. The governor then moved the state back to a modified Phase 2 near the end of November.
