Lotus Evija Pumps Out Delayed Cosworth V8 F1 Engine Noise

When the Lotus Evija finally arrives, listen carefully, because the sound it makes is a remixed version of the Lotus Type 49 Cosworth DFV engine exhaust note. You can hear the noise in the embedded video above and, unfortunately, the sound does not. it is as mechanically crude as the real one.

The sound comes from Welsh producer Patrick Patrikios, who has experience working with pop stars like Britney Spears and Sia. For this project, the objective was to create a noise that immediately evoked the Lotus. The work eventually resulted in the Formula One Type 49 car and its famous engine.

Cosworth DFV made their competitive debut in 1967, and Jim Clark won a victory for Lotus in the first engine race. Eventually, other teams adopted the engine, and the DFV practically became the standard plant in F1. In 1969 and 1973, DFV-powered cars won all F1 races during the season.

“There is a purity in that V8, a raw edge and an emotion that moves something in your soul, as well as in the best songs,” said Patrikios.

Patrikios didn’t just give Evija the DFV engine score and end the day. Although it probably could also have worked well. Instead, he muted the combustion engine and did some digital filtering.

The result is a distorted electronic buzz. It looks like what happens when you connect a stereo incorrectly and get feedback through your speakers. Any relation with the mechanical regret of the DFV is neutralized to the point of being non-existent.

Evija is due to debut in the first half of 2021. Lotus had to delay the launch of the date originally planned in late 2020 because the coronavirus pandemic made testing of the vehicle difficult.

The electric hypercar has a declared power of more than 2,000 horsepower (1,491 kilowatts). The projected performance numbers indicate that it can reach 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in less than 3 seconds and 186 mph (300 km / h) in less than 9 seconds.
