Los Angeles Rams DL Michael Brockers being negotiated with Detroit Lions, said the source

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Los Angeles Rams is finalizing a deal to send veteran striker Michael Brockers to Detroit Lions, a confirmed source for ESPN.

The NFL Network reported the change for the first time.

This is the second business that Rams and Lions have been involved in during this off-season, after Lions hired former Scout College Rams director Brad Holmes as general manager in January.

Shortly after Holmes’ hiring in Detroit, the Rams sent quarterback Jared Goff, along with a choice of the third round in 2021 and a choice of the first round in 2022 and 2023, to the Lions in exchange for quarterback Matthew Stafford.

These negotiations become official at the beginning of the new year of the league on Wednesday.

A choice in the first round in 2012, Brockers spent his entire nine-year career in the NFL with the Rams. He signed a three-year, $ 24 million contract with Rams in the last off-season, after a free agent contract with the Baltimore Ravens failed.

Brockers could fall victim to a salary cap with the Rams, who were about $ 33 million above the ceiling, according to overthecap.com, after the $ 182.5 million salary cap for 2021 was set.

The move will cost the Rams $ 3.67 million in dead money fees, but will also produce a maximum savings of $ 6.17 million, according to overthecap.com.

Brockers’ $ 6.5 million base salary becomes fully guaranteed on the fifth day of the championship.

Brockers are expected to provide immediate relief within the defensive line for Lions, who already rehired edge rusher Romeo Okwara on Monday and have Trey Flowers under contract.

But the middle of the line is missing. The Lions dropped the nose of last year’s starting opponent, Danny Shelton, on Tuesday and have only Nick Williams, Da’Shawn Hand, John Penisini and Kevin Strong under contract in the defensive tackle.

When negotiating for Brockers, Lions can see it as at least a short-term piece to assist in the team’s defensive rebuilding because it is under contract until 2022. Its pass rush victory rate (6.5 percent) and fee run stop victory (27 percent) would be a good addition to a Detroit defense that fought in both areas under Matt Patricia.

Brockers, who has played alongside Aaron Donald, three times NFL Defender of the Year Player, for seven seasons, has 28 sacks in his career.
