Los Angeles Dodgers negotiate LHP Adam Kolarek, OF Cody Thomas for Oakland A’s by IF Sheldon Neuse, RHP Gus Varland

LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers acquired field player Sheldon Neuse and Oakland Athletics minor league right-hander Gus Varland on Friday for southpaw Adam Kolarek and secondary league striker Cody Thomas.

Neuse spent the last season on the Oakland alternate website after reaching 0.250 the previous year for A’s. Before his promotion in 2019, the 26-year-old infielder had 0.317 hits, 27 home runs and 102 RBIs in 126 games.

Varland is a 2-2 combined with an ERA of 1.54 and 77 eliminations in 18 minor league games, including 15 matches.

Kolarek made 20 appearances for the Dodgers last year, going 3-0 with an ERA of 0.95 and 13 eliminations. He had 5-0 with a defense in 46 games and an ERA of 0.88 in his career in the Dodgers. In four major league seasons, he’s an 11-3 combined with an ERA of 3.32.

Thomas spent part of last season on the alternate Dodgers website. In 2019, he achieved the best score of his career with 23 homers and 76 RBIs with Double-A Tulsa. In four seasons in the minor leagues, he had 81 home runs and drove in 278 races with a batting average of 0.255.
