Loose cow blocks Atlanta interstate traffic for an hour

A single cow stopped traffic for about an hour near Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday after falling from a cattle trailer.

According to the Dunwoody Police Department, the cow was first reported running on I-285 at around 9 am on Saturday. The officers managed to capture the cow using rope provided by a civilian and returned the cow to its owner.

WSB-TV reports that at one point, three lanes of the highway were closed due to the animal, although traffic returned to normal about an hour later.

There was a report of an accident in the area, reports the station, but it is not clear whether or not the cow was involved in the accident in any way.

“Traffic was changing a little bit. The cars were passing slowly. Then, all of a sudden, that cow came running around the corner with a gentleman behind him, ”Michael Gerbick, a witness of the event that was going to work, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I was surprised when I saw it, but I think it’s Atlanta.”

The paper notes that this is not the first time that a cow has affected traffic in the Atlanta area. Beginning in 2018, there were three separate traffic incidents involving cows in a 5-month period, in which several dozen cows ended up dying.
