Loose bolts cause safety recall for Ford Mustang Mach-E 2021

Ford issued a safety recall today for less than 75 2021 Mustang Mach-Es that have already been delivered to customers. From Ford:

During checks to provide high levels of quality and customer satisfaction, Ford found that some vehicles may have auxiliary chassis bolts that the supplier did not tighten to specifications.

Ford says there have been no accidents or injuries caused by the problem and customers who have already received their Mach-E will be notified as of the week of March 22.

Of the 1,258 Mach-Es affected, 94% are in the US and all 90 in Canada will have the recall resolved before delivery to the customer. The reference number for this Ford recall is 21H09.

Fortunately for Ford, this is a small recall, and tightening the loose screws on the auxiliary chassis is probably a simple task for Ford service centers. Only less than 75 customers will have to take their Mustang Mach-E to the dealership for the recall. It appears that the other 1,100 Mach-Es will have the recall completed before delivery to the customer. It is difficult to imagine that loose auxiliary chassis bolts will cause accidents. The screws should still be tight enough, but they should not be tightened to the proper specifications when installed.

The Mach-E Mustang is a brand new model for Ford and an EV, so expect more recalls in the future. This happens with all manufacturers. Hopefully Ford will never have a battery recall that Hyundai and LG Chem are dealing with now.
