There is no denying it: many of the best investment opportunities in the world will take place outside the United States in the coming years and decades. Therefore, investors should look for companies positioned for great international growth. And while this should certainly include companies based outside the United States and focused exclusively on markets outside the United States, it should not cause you to ignore some incredible international investments right under your nose.
In the December 1 edition of “The Wrap” in Motley Fool Live, host Jason Hall and Motley Fool contributor Brian Feroldi discussed an important international company, MarketLibre (NASDAQ: MELI), along with Canadian infrastructure and energy giants Brookfield Infrastructure and Brookfield Renewable, as well as several well-established American giants that rely on international markets to deliver most of their growth in the coming years.

Jason Hall: Are there other international companies, stocks with decent prices that pique your interest? There is a small company in South America, I think they do a good job. MercadoLibre. If you are looking to invest internationally and don’t have MercadoLibre, I think you are crazy. I will be direct.
As much as the shares have skyrocketed, this is a business whose market value is still less than $ 80 billion. I am sure it is still less than $ 80 billion. It is one of the fastest growing economic parts in the world, Latin America, where they operate. It falls right into that megatrend that I was talking about, as economic growth and the middle class establish themselves. They have great leadership there. They are on payments.
That must be number one, I think. Guys, what do you say?
Brian Feroldi: Yes, don’t forget that many American companies sell many things in international markets. So you can argue that Starbucks is an international company. McDonalds, I think 80% of McDonald’s sales are international. Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL).
Jason Hall: About half of Nike sales are international.
Brian Feroldi: If you want international exposure, don’t feel like you need to buy a company that based abroad, you should ask where they recipe comes from.
Jason Hall: This is a very, very good point. I think another great way to get exposure to opportunities abroad. Brookfield companies, such as Brookfield Infrastructure, Brookfield Renewable, most of their assets they are building and acquiring are outside the United States, outside North America. So there are many ways to invest to get exposure to what is happening across the lake.
