‘London’s slimmest house’ is on the market for $ 1.3 million

A house classified as “possibly the leanest house in London” is for sale for £ 950,000 ($ 1.3 million).

Just 1.80 m wide and 1,034 square feet, the five-story property was once a hat shop, according to broker Winkworth, who is selling it.

The two-bedroom house in Shepherd’s Bush, west London, was originally converted by fashion photographer Juergen Teller, according to a statement from Winkworth, and features an original Art Deco bathtub and an Aga stove.

“It’s quirky, charming and great for entertaining and will attract someone who feels there’s more to life than two up, two down,” said David Myers, the Winkworth agent in charge of the sale. “It started out as a hat shop, it was converted by a fashion photographer – the ultimate design house.”

The basement has a kitchen, a dining room and double-glazed doors leading to a garden patio, while the first floor has a reception room. Climb the spiral staircase to the second floor, where you will find an office, a bedroom and a roof terrace. The third floor houses a bathroom, a closet and a shower. At the top of the house is the master bedroom.

“Interior design takes the tailor-made approach of a luxury yacht, making the most of small spaces,” says Winkworth.

The small house may be an oddity in London, but extraordinarily narrow houses have long been a fixture in countries where land is taxed by width, such as Vietnam and the Netherlands, and Japan has established itself as a pioneer in the field.

And while a $ 1.3 million price tag means that this list is far from affordable, tiny houses are increasingly popular as architects respond to high living costs, increasing urban density and increased interest in reducing and simplify our lives.
