Although Tom Brady may have made the best move of his career by launching the Lombardi Trophy on another boat in the arms of Cameron Brate, at least one person was not impressed.
Lorraine Grohs, who said her father Greg Grohs was the master goldsmith at Tiffany & Co. from 1967 to 1994 and designed the first Vince Lombardi Trophy, asked Brady to apologize for his behavior while speaking to Fox 4 Leslie DelasBour in southwest Florida.
“I was upset to see that this trophy was dishonored and disrespected for being played like a real football,” said Grohs. “I have a great history with this trophy being made by my father, and it is an honor, and I know all the craftsmen who did it when my father was also there at Tiffany’s. And it requires a lot of hard work.”
Brady’s launch went viral during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers boat parade in honor of the Super Bowl LV victory.
According to Grohs, the event caused enough stress to affect his ability to sleep because of how his father’s hard work was taken lightly.
“I saw this trophy being made at the Tiffany factory and it is a beautiful trophy,” said Grohs. “My father had to carve the seams, he had to carve the seams by hand. There is a newspaper article that shows him working on that trophy. The ball is made by hand and the base too.”
She is not normally a football fan, but added that she watches the Super Bowl just to see the players, coaches and owners lift the league’s biggest prize with pride. Grohs said he wants an apology from the seven-time Super Bowl winner.
“Personally, I would like an apology, not just for me and my family and the other goldsmiths, but for the fans, all the football fans, the other players on the team.”
