Lo-fi video game music remixes are my new favorite genre

I don’t usually work with any music – I am often distracted – but recently, when I needed some background music, I became obsessed with lo-fi remixes of video game music on YouTube.

I have already stated that I sometimes listen to video game music while working because a) I am a great nerd, and b) a lot of video game music has already been designed to be a pleasant background noise that you can repeat over and over without becoming boring. It wouldn’t be much fun to spend hours and hours in the worlds of Pokémon if the music was always in your face and distracting, after all. (I’ll give Pokémon Ruby and Sapphirehilariously prominent horns pass here.)

It makes sense, then, that the infinitely audible quality of video game music, much of which has been etched into my brain after days spent in virtual worlds, blends in very well with the soft electronic sounds of chillhop lo-fi beats, which can I Furthermore listen for hours on end. Now, I’m hooked.

Here are some remixes that I recommend.

If you are a fan of Final Fantasy VIIincredible soundtrack, I think you will like this set of remixes by Rifti Beats. I think I return to this video more than any other. (And there is part two!)

GameChops’ Zelda & Chill 2 adds a fantastic touch to some classics Zelda melodies. (The remix of “Midna’s Lament” is so, so good.) If you like what you hear, you might want to hear the original “Zelda & Chill”.

I recently won Nier: automata, and I couldn’t get the incredible game music out of my head. I recently resorted to this remix of two of the best songs in the game – the theme of city ruins and the theme of the amusement park – by Alex Moukala (a name you can recognize as the creator of the funky remixes of the Wii’s Mii Channel) .

If you are familiar with the Persona very good song from the series, you might want to hear this set of remixes from Courtar.

And if you don’t want to select the many mixes available on YouTube, simply activate the Live Stream of the GameChops Video Game Study Lounge. (In a scary coincidence, I opened it to get the link, and he was playing that remix of “Midna’s Lament” that I mentioned before. The song is really good!)

Good hearing. AND tweet for me with all the recommendations you have!
