Live updates: Celtics close to finalizing switch to Magic guard Evan Fournier using Hayward switching exception

The Celtics are close to an agreement that will bring Magic’s owner, Evan Fournier, in exchange for two options in the second round, according to a league source.

According to the source, Boston must use its $ 28.5 million trade exception that was created in Gordon Hayward’s sign and trade. At noon on Thursday, with three hours to go until the deadline, the deal had not yet been closed. The Celtics showed interest in the Magic striker Aaron Gordon, but it was negotiated with the Nuggets shortly after the Celtics conquered Fournier.

This season, Fournier averages 19.7 points per game, his career record, while shooting 38.8 percent beyond the 3-point line. He is in the final year of a five-year, $ 85 million contract and will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. But basketball president Danny Ainge has declared his reluctance to make a deal for a hired player, so if Boston completes that exchange, it will likely be confident that it will be able to sign again with Fournier at the end of the season.

Fournier seemed to confirm that he was going to Boston on his own shortly after noon on Thursday. Well, more or less. He posted on Twitter: “Hello Celtics fans, if you’re not familiar with me, please Google my last name. You’re welcome. “Then he added a clover emoji to the end of his message.

Fournier had made this joke on Twitter before, a reference to a rare form of gangrene that bears the same name.
