Eddie Vedder released an acoustic cover of Bruce Springsteen’s song “Growin ‘Up” as part of a new EP that expanded Pearl Jam singer’s recent solo single, “Matter of Time”.
Vedder performed his interpretation of Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ concert classic since 2003, when he debuted his acoustic version during a Pearl Jam concert in Springsteen, New Jersey; on that show, Vedder said he would play the music on the guitar in his room as a child. The track was also among a handful of Springsteen covers (including “Drive All Night” and “My City in Ruins”) that have appeared on Vedder’s solo track setlist since 2005.
The six songs A matter of time EP, released during the Christmas holiday and a few days after Vedder’s 56th birthday, also includes a pair of Pearl Jam songs – “Porch” and “Just Breathe” – played “acoustics at home” during the Covid- 19. Vedder’s solo performance on Pearl Jam’s “Future Days” at the 2020 Game Awards is also included, as well as the single’s two original tracks, “Matter of Time” and “Say Hi”.
The last two songs were recently played by Vedder for virtually the Ventures Into Cures event to benefit EB Research Partnership, a nonprofit organization Vedder and his wife, Jill, co-founded to help find a cure for epidermolysis bullosa genetic disease of the skin. Children with EB are born with fragile skin and are subject to severe pain, external and internal wounds, and must undergo a rigorous bandaging process every day; Vedder wrote “Say Hi” for a six year old child with EB.
