The Ford Mustang Shelby 350 GT was never made for Europe, but if a new video is an indication, it is more than a game for the continent’s most demanding roads.
At the end of last year, the popular European-based YouTubers AutoTopNL cars managed to get their hands on one of Ford’s most powerful modern muscle cars and take a ride on the German autobahn. But you don’t have to watch the resulting video (via Road and trail) to see if the car was up to the task. Just listen to your V-8’s roar as it eclipses 170 mph.
YouTubers were able to scream at speeds that would have taken them to prison in the United States because large sections of the public road system, especially in non-urbanized areas, have no speed limits imposed by the federal government. Thanks to this, near the end of the video (around the 3:10 mark), AutoTopNL can be seen pushing the white GT350 at a maximum speed of 172 mph and holding it for 10 full seconds. But, although the driver seems to be having a lot of fun putting the car into action, the clip carries a warning that states, in no uncertain terms: “DO NOT TRY! This part of the German Autobahn has no speed limit. “
2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Heritage Edition
Ford
As impressive as’ Stang looks and sounds, his performance shouldn’t be surprising. The beloved GT350, which has just been discontinued after six years, gets its power from a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter flat-cranked V-8 that can produce 526 horsepower and 429 feet of torque and redlines at 8,250 rpm. Coupled to a six-speed Tremec 3160 manual transmission, the huge mill can launch the car from zero to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 mph. In fact, the robust coupe is even faster than what is shown in the video.
All of that power comes at a surprisingly reasonable cost. The 2020 GT350 started at $ 61,365. But now that the car is no longer being manufactured – it is being replaced by the limited edition Mach 1 – don’t be surprised if that price starts to rise in the secondary market.
