Disney’s official statement on the shutdown said, in part:
Over the next year, Disney will focus on providing a more integrated, personalized and franchise-focused e-commerce experience through its shopDisney platform, which will be complemented by greater integration with Disney Park apps and social media platforms. This will be combined with a variety of new and sophisticated merchandise from across the Company’s range of brands, including collections of adult clothing and artist collaborations, trend streetwear, premium household goods and collectibles.
“While consumer behavior has shifted towards online shopping, the global pandemic has changed what consumers expect from a retailer,” said Stephanie Young, president, Consumer Products Games and Publishing. “In recent years, we’ve been focusing on serving consumers where they’re already spending their time, like expanding Disney stores around the world. We now plan to create a more flexible and interconnected e-commerce experience that provides consumers with easy access to exclusive, high-quality products across all of our franchises. “
