UNION COUNTY, NJ – New Jersey has expanded the number of publicly listed COVID-19 vaccination sites, and the state continues to announce new locations in Union County and elsewhere.
Some are accepting commitments directly, but others are not. But the state has suggested contacting these locations and seeing if it is possible to get an appointment (see Union County vaccine location list below).
Health commissioner Judith Persichilli said the state plans to increase the number of vaccination sites to more than 300. State officials said the goal is to vaccinate 70% of the adult population by spring.
Governor Phil Murphy announced that New Jersey has created a county-by-county vaccine center that reports the number of immunizations across the state.
Health officials said that not all sites are publicly listed because some are not open to the public, such as prisons and psychiatric hospitals.
Persichilli said New Jersey does not currently have many vaccines available, but she hopes that will change soon. Biden’s next presidential administration said it plans to greatly expand the number of vaccine doses available to the American public.
New Jersey recently expanded the list of eligible people, allowing police officers and firefighters and people over 65 to receive the vaccine. Read more: NJ expands COVID vaccine to 65 years or older, those with medical problems
Persichilli said the state administered at least 36 percent of the allocated vaccine doses. Hospitals administered vaccines to at least 50% of their health care professionals.
His hope is to continue to expand the number of “mega-sites” in convention centers and large spaces, with the goal of receiving 1,000 vaccinated people a day.

What’s new this week
- On Friday, Summit City announced that it would open a website on Monday that any New Jersey resident in eligibility groups 1A and 1B can use. (More details are here: New Coronavirus Vaccination Center to open at Summit.)
- The state noted: “The vaccination phases are provisional and subject to change. The movement between the vaccination eligibility phases can be fluid. One phase can overlap the other. Not all individuals in each phase will be vaccinated before opening for additional groups, and not all groups within a specific phase will be eligible to receive the vaccine at the same time ”.
- In addition to these sites, there will be more doctors’ offices, hospitals and pharmacies receiving the vaccine, so check your local pharmacy or supermarket. CVS said that some of its stories may receive the vaccine next week (27 CVS pharmacies in NJ to distribute vaccine).
- As of Friday, more than 458,000 Americans have died of the virus. (You can see which states had the highest number of deaths in the past week on this CDC map.)
Here are the public vaccine locations currently listed in Union County. Many will only vaccinate people aged 18 and over for the time being, so check the details.
