Liquor licenses, authorizations from 5 additional Michigan companies suspended for violating the COVID order

DETROIT – On Tuesday, the Michigan Liquor Control Commission suspended licenses and beverage authorizations for five additional businesses.

The state agency noted that action was taken against companies for violating the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services extended COVID restrictions.

Companies that violated the MDHHS Request include Brooklyn’s in Wyandotte, Powell’s Pub in Ypsilanti, Mike’s Sports Page in Charlotte, Plymouth ROC Restaurant and the Sahara Restaurant in Sterling Heights.

Companies are due to appear before an administrative law judge on December 30 for a virtual hearing to determine whether suspensions should continue or other fines and penalties will be imposed.

“Licensees are strictly prohibited from allowing meetings in closed environments, as defined by the MDHHS Gatherings and Face Mask Order, in their licensed facilities. In addition, these prohibited meetings held without requiring customers to wear masks pose an immediate threat to the public’s health, safety and well-being. Allowing this activity to continue could create additional outbreaks of COVID-19, ”said the State of Michigan in a press release.

He continued: “Any licensed establishment that violates the MDHHS emergency order will be held strictly liable and may suspend or revoke its license. All licensees must comply not only with MDHHS orders, but also with orders from the local health department and local laws on reduced occupancy rates and social disengagement protocols related to the COVID-19 pandemic. ”

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan increased to 483,922 on Tuesday, including 12,282 deaths, state officials reported.

Tuesday’s update includes 3,414 new cases and 193 additional deaths, including 105 from a vital record review.
