Lions have a big name in mind for their place at GM: Seahawks General Manager John Schneider.
Detroit plans to pursue Schneider, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports.
If Schneider had full authority over the Seahawks’ staff, Lions would not be allowed to approach him about the job vacancy. But, as Seahawks’ head coach, Pete Carroll, has primary personal authority, the Lions would be offering Schneider a step forward with the final word on his lineup. This allows them to approach Schneider within the league rules and can be enough to make Schneider think about leaving Seattle.
The Lions fired general manager Bob Quinn and coach Matt Patricia this season. If Schneider was hired, he would be in charge of hiring the next Lions head coach.
Detroit’s position may not be particularly attractive, given the shortage of talent on the list and the poor situation of the team’s salary cap. But if the Lions’ owner, Sheila Ford Hamp, is willing to offer Schneider enough money and authority, a big name in the personal world may be heading to Detroit.
