Matthew Stafford may not be the only Lions quarterback with a new team on March 17.
Lions had business discussions with other teams about Chase Daniel, according to ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter. Schefter adds, in what could be seen as a favor to Daniel’s agent or the Lions trying to buy him: “Daniel was considered an ideal mentor for young QBs, something he learned from Drew Brees during his time together in New Orleans. “
Daniel has a base salary of $ 4.3 million in 2021, $ 1.5 million of which is guaranteed. Negotiating it before June 2 would trigger a $ 1.5 million limit charge.
As noted by ESPN.com’s Field Yates, Daniel won $ 38.7 million during his career in the NFL, despite launching only 1,694 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.
