Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp is taking a practical approach to rebuilding the team’s roster.
Chris Spielman, who joined the Lions office in December, said this morning at 97.1 The Ticket that Hamp is involved in Lions meetings as they discuss improving their people.
“[Hamp] been involved being in all these staff meetings. She participated in two days of free agency offensive meetings and free agency defensive meetings, ”said Spielman, through Dave Birkett of Detroit Free Press.
The degree of involvement of owners with staff varies from team to team, with some adopting the Jerry Jones approach and appointing themselves as general manager, while others do not find out who the general manager is hiring or writing until the general public finds out. Hamp, who is entering his first off-season as the main owner after taking over his mother’s team, is not Jerry Jones. But she seems to be on the most involved side.
