Lions have greatly increased the limit by restructuring their new defender’s contract.

ESPN Field Yates reports that Lions converted $ 20 million of Jared Goff’s base salary in a signing bonus. The move opens a $ 15 million ceiling for the rest of the off-season.

Goff’s contract runs until 2024 and the maximum charges for the next three years will increase by $ 5 million as a result of the conversion.

That would leave about $ 30 million in dead money on edge if the team wanted to move on without Goff next year, so it looks like the move will extend its time in Detroit until at least the 2022 season. Opinions on whether this is one thing good or not will be shaped by Goff’s performance when on the field later this year.
