Lions new GM Brad Holmes excited to start work in Detroit

Holmes said he is a long-term and long-term thinker.

“It all comes down to succession plans,” he said. “This is how I am permanently connected. This is how I see people. This is how I see football. This is how I see my own personal life.

“I just think to make sure that you are aware of all possible angles and all possible results that can happen, I think it is very, very critical. I admit that I am a nerd in predictive science and prediction and I am because I think this it’s our job. Our job is to predict the future and I’m also a bit of a nerd about the psychology of the process. “

Holmes said he likes some of the building blocks in Detroit. He talked about the position of defender and Matthew Stafford, many “intriguing” perks along the offensive line and a young running back in D’Andre Swift that Holmes called exciting and explosive.

In defense, he said debutant cornerback Jeff Okudah has a lot of advantage, skill and a high ceiling. He said that the defense also has some positive parts of development.

In the end, Holmes said Detroit looked like the perfect situation to take the next step in his career, which is to collaboratively manage football and personnel operations with the hope of bringing a consistent winner to Detroit.

The next big task for Lions is to find their head coach. Holmes said that some of the characteristics he looks for in the next head coach is a person who is a leader of men, someone who has command and presence and, in that presence, is confident, balanced, mentally strong and has a great passion for developing players and building through the draft with a relatively young team.
