Lions hire Kelvin Sheppard for the defensive technical team

Lions are bringing a familiar face back to the coaching staff. Former Lions linebacker Kelvin Sheppard is returning to the team as the new LBs coach, according to several sources.

The move is not yet official, but Sheppard recently added “Detroit Lions” to the his Twitter profile and retweeted several messages indicating support for his apparent hiring.

Sheppard came from LSU, where he was hired last March as director of player development for his alma mater. His NFL career ended after a stint in 2018 with Lions, his sixth team in eight NFL seasons. Sheppard was a third round pick for the Bills in 2011, after a stellar university career.

Sheppard joins new LB coach Mark DeLeone, whose signing was officially announced by Lions on Friday.
