With the free agency coming, Detroit Lions won’t have much space available to shop in the market. One of the main reasons is the abundance of dead space.
Only three teams carry more dead end value in the 2021 season than Lions. Detroit is carrying more than $ 20.262 million in a quarter of mulch.
Almost everything is connected to Matthew Stafford’s trade. Lions ate $ 19 million at the Stafford contract’s dead end when they agreed to negotiate it with the Rams. Romeo Okwara costs Lions just over $ 900,000 in cap, and Jason Huntley counts $ 217,734 after Lions cut their fifth round choice a year ago.
The three teams above the Lions are mainly there because of the quarterback negotiations and the associated big limit settlements.
Philadelphia has more than $ 40 million in dead limit, with more than $ 34 million tied to Carson Wentz’s pending deal with the Colts. The Eagles also swallowed $ 5.8 million in dead capital this week when they launched WR DeSean Jackson.
The next is Stafford’s new team, the Los Angeles Rams. They paid over $ 22 million in dead money to Goff in the pending deal. Todd Gurley, who was fired last season, still counts as a $ 8.4 million limit reached in 2021. Linebacker Leonard Floyd counts $ 3.3 million after being released.
