Senator Lindsey Graham, R-SC, expressed concern on Thursday about the long-term consequences that could arise after Democratic pressure in the House to remove controversial MP Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committee positions.
The House should vote on a resolution to remove Green from his positions on the House Budget Committee and the Education and Labor Commission. Democrats moved ahead with the resolution after House minority leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Ca., Condemned Greene’s previous conduct but refused to seek disciplinary action against it.
“If successful, the party’s effort to remove @RepMTG from its committee assignments will set a terrible precedent for the House – with no end in sight,” said Graham. “I hope your comments today will help a lot to lower the temperature and allow us to focus on the important issues that the American people want us to address.”
Ever since he formally entered Congress in January, Greene has faced widespread criticism of his support for the QAnon conspiracy theory and former President Donald Trump’s unproven claims that the presidential election was stolen. Critics called for Greene’s expulsion after an uproar related to her previous social media activity, which revealed that she “liked” posts asking for violence against leading Democrats and suggesting that several of the country’s deadliest mass shootings, including Sandy Hook and Parkland, were staged.
Greene’s comments sparked the ire of Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, who referred to “crazy lies and conspiracy theories” as “cancer for the Republican Party and our country”.

Greene remained quite defiant in the face of requests for his removal. However, the first-term legislator expressed remorse for his earlier support for QAnon in a speech before the House vote.
“I could believe things that were not true and ask questions about them and talk about them, and that is absolutely what I regret,” said Greene. “If it weren’t for the Facebook posts and comments I liked in 2018, I wouldn’t be here today and you couldn’t point the finger and accuse me of something wrong, because I have a very good life that I’m proud of. “
