Senator Lindsey Graham, RS.C., attacked Twitter after the social media site announced the banning of President Trump’s personal account, a move that Trump’s former ally called a “serious mistake”.
TWITTER SUSPENDED @realDonaldTrump PERMANENTLY ACCOUNT
“Twitter can ban me for that, but I gladly accept that fate,” tweeted Graham on Saturday. “The ayatollah can tweet, but Trump can’t. It says a lot about the people who run Twitter.”
Twitter defended the ban, which followed an attack on the Capitol earlier this week that left five people dead – including a police officer – and several shaken lawmakers asking Trump to resign or be impeached.
“After careful analysis of recent tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them – specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter – we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement to violence,” says the company wrote in a blog post Friday night.
LINDSEY GRAHAM CALLED ‘TRAITOR’ FOR THE CROWD IN THE AIRPORT
The platform had temporarily blocked Trump’s account earlier this week – an unprecedented move – after labeling several of his tweets as contributing to the siege of the Capitol on Wednesday, while lawmakers held a joint session to count the College ballots. Election that handed over the White House to defiant Trump Democrat Joe Biden.
Graham and several other conservative voices on Twitter said the social media company went too far in banning Trump, while still allowing murderous regime dictators to use the site.
A Twitter spokesman did not respond to Fox News’s request for comment.

Graham’s defense of Trump’s social media presence came after he distanced himself from the president on the Senate floor, saying “enough is enough”.
Graham was referring at the time to Trump’s rhetoric at a rally before the attack on the Capitol, in which the president encouraged his supporters to “fight” for the “stolen election”.
Meanwhile, the South Carolina senator faced resistance from Trump supporters, who surrounded him at Washington, DC airport on Friday, calling him a “traitor” for betraying the president’s loyalty.
